Senior Public Affairs Advisor – Nitrogen & Living Environment

Location: Nieuwegein, Netherlands

We are looking for an experienced Senior Public Affairs Advisor to support the development and execution of public affairs strategy on one of the Netherlands' most high-profile policy areas. In this role, you will work at the intersection of politics, government, and business, advising senior leadership while engaging with key regional and national stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute the public affairs strategy for nitrogen and environmental policy.

Lead stakeholder engagement with provincial governments, policymakers, and parliamentary representatives.

Monitor political, regulatory, and environmental developments and translate them into strategic recommendations.

Coordinate public affairs activities across multiple regional locations to ensure a unified strategic approach.

Build and maintain relationships with government officials, policymakers, and external stakeholders.

Advise senior management on political risks, opportunities, and strategic positioning.

Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including Sustainability, Environment, Legal, and Corporate Communications.

Support advocacy initiatives relating to environmental quality, public health, and sustainability.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree (university level preferred).

7–10 years of relevant experience in Public Affairs, Government Relations, Public Policy, Politics, or Strategic Advisory.

Strong expertise in nitrogen policy, environmental regulation, nature conservation, public health, and sustainability.

Demonstrated experience working within regional and provincial government environments.

Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder landscapes and align multiple interests.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Dutch.
